Professional Development Plan

Professional Development Plan Introduction Leadership is an important process in team management. It is always important to understand the characteristic of self and that of team members in order to offer effective leadership. By understanding the personal characteristics and of the other team members, a leader will be able to understand the strengths and weaknesses in order to find a way of achieving success in addressing the specific duties.Advertising We will write a custom coursework sample on Professional Development Plan specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In this learning group, there are four members; they include Elizabeth, Jason, Rachel, and I. Each one of us has unique characteristics which make us diversified in our capabilities. Where one of us has weaknesses, the others may have strengths, and this makes it possible to address various challenges as a team. As a leader, I need to analyze these characteristics in order to determine how we can address diff erent tasks, and how we can help one another overcome some of the personal challenges that may affect our career (Rughani, Franklin Dixon, 2003). In this assignment, I seek to develop a plan that will address the characteristics of the group and me as the leader of the learning team. Combined DISC Chart of the Learning Team Members The group members have taken their time to generate their DISC profile based on the specific questions that were set for them. The following is a combined DISC chart of my Learning Team members. Figure 1: Combined DISC Chart The characteristics of the team The chart above shows the characteristics of the team. It is clear that the four team members have different traits that make each one unique. When describing the characteristics of the team, it would be important to look at the composition of the personality and behavior of the different members. The chart shows that this team has the right composition that it needs in order to succeed.Advertising Looking for coursework on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! In each of the four personality traits described in the DISC, there is only one person. This makes the group an all-rounded team with all the four different personalities. This may be advantageous because of the diversity of opinions that may exist in the group. This means that each of the ideas proposed by the team members will be analyzed from different perspectives, and the final decisions will be based on a clearly informed knowledge that is convincing to the four people with different traits. However, this may also have its own challenges. The difference in personality means that each of the team members has a different reasoning approach. This may not only delay the process of coming up with a decision, but also may lead to a complete breakdown in communication and decision making processes. What one of the team members finds to be very important may mean very little to another member. What one member may consider a best course of action may be the complete opposite of the thought of another team member. This means that it would take compromise and support in order to make any progress in some cases. Development Plan on Characteristics of my Team Members As a leader of this group, it is important at this stage to create a development plan to address specific characteristics of the team members both individually and as a group (Beers, 2007). This will clearly demonstrate my ability to lead them under various circumstances. Group professional development plan This group has four members with varying characteristics. The report we obtained from the personality self-assessment reveals that we are very unique in this group. As a leader, I consider this as the main strength. It is evident that where one of us has a weakness, we fin d strength in the other person. This makes it easy to develop as a learning team. The results reveal that each one of us needs some development in specific areas in order to develop into a better person. In this team, we will work together and identify these weaknesses, and find a solution that will help all the team members overcome them in order to advance our careers (Peine Peine, 2008).Advertising We will write a custom coursework sample on Professional Development Plan specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Individual professional development plan It is vital to start by creating an individual professional development plan based on the results obtained from the DISC assessment of the four members. The four members included Elizabeth, Jason, Rachel, and I. Elizabeth The results reveal that Elizabeth is predominantly an interactive style who is sometimes referred to as an enthusiast. It means that she is more direct and less open. The main goal that that drives her is to influence people around her to act in a given pattern. Some of the key characteristics of Elizabeth include seeking status symbol, slow in pace, dislike of routines, comfortable to delegate duties, an enthusiast, persuasive and inspirational, and very trusting. Sometimes she may be evasive when under pressure. In her growth opportunities, she focuses more on the big picture and very impulsive. Her personal empowerment pointers show that she needs to improve her ability to deal with substance of the tasks, state her positive views, and learn from the Steadiness. Her main weakness is that she is sometimes careless and disorganized. Jason Jason comes out as predominantly a Dominance Style- sometimes referred to as the Producer- based on the results that were obtained from the DISC assessment. Generally, he is less direct in his speech and actions. His primary goal is to accomplish better goals within his organization or group. He dislikes people who he considers to be obstacles to his achievement of the set goals, and prefer working as a team. Her ability to produce makes him valuable to this learning team because he is always dependable and very efficient. He rarely delegates his duties, strict on working as per the schedule, and can manage pressure. He is always focused and very confident when working with people. However, his weakness is that he dislikes being instructed and is always reluctant to change. Rachel Rachel comes out predominantly as a person with Steadiness style traits. She is a go-getter whose main drive in life is the desire for a steady flow of greater achievements in all the tasks that she does. She is a good short-term planner and self-reliant person. She does not rely on others to achieve her goals in life. She is an industrious person who knows how to break work into smaller tasks.Advertising Looking for coursework on business economics? Rachel’s main weakness is that she is always uncomfortable with multiple or complex tasks. She may also be guarded and rigid when under pressure. Anita From the results obtained from the self-assessment report, it is clear that I am predominantly cautious. The results show that I am a perfectionist who is more indirect and less guarded. My main motivation in all that I do is to have predictable outcomes. I pay a lot of attention to details and key processes, and value relationships. I am a thorough and dependable person who prefers methodological approach when handling tasks. I am always keen to embrace change when it is confirmed that it is attainable. I prefer following established rules other than working without a plan. I also prefer having control over procedures and very keen on details. My main weakness is that I dislike oppositi on. I may be critical, and sometimes unresponsive to some issues. My ability to lead them The above characteristics identify critical personality traits that make me a good leader for this team. It is clear that I am a good planner. This is an important trait in leading a learning team. I will be able to plan and predict the outcomes of our group when handling various academic tasks. A leader should be someone who is dependable. That is another strength of mine that will make it possible for others to rely on me. I believe I am a problem solver and an industrious person, which makes it easy for me to work with and lead others. References Beers, S. (2007). Please read the cases and answer the questions by using the relevant Essay - 1

Please read the cases and answer the questions by using the relevant legal basis - Essay Example , the company must leave room for competition and must not subdue other smaller companies in the region for encouraging technological development, thus conforms to the law (Geneva, 2008). Price fixation in a market prohibits competition and leads to the development of a monopoly market structure. Inferring to the case of Ilovemoneyalot Telecommunications Company, the action by the CEO of the company to influence fixation of the prices of smartphones through a decrease of prices by 35% would disadvantage other smaller companies who are not part of the agreement to decrease the price. The decrease in prices of the smartphones by 35% would result in concerted practice towards other smaller players with a total share of 20% of the overall market share. In the reduction of the prices, Ilovemoneyalot Company should involve all the players in the market in the decision-making to avoid disadvantaging other market players. The patency law helps in the protection of the original work of an individual against production or reproduction by another party. This law majorly applies in artistical, and literature works like songs, work of literature or an innovation. Relating the patency law to the case of Arthur, the pianist who wrote a song â€Å"Beautiful Maria of my life,† after the production of the song by another party, the original composer can take legal action against the neo- composer if he/she can prove patency to the work. This is because the law protects from the production of another’s work, which is presumably still under modification (Geneva,

Globalization Strategies Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words

Globalization Strategies - Essay Example This essay stresses that sophisticated ERP models are obligatory if the operation wishes to incorporate material planning with customer demands and supplier subsidiaries, both internal and external, as well as various means of distribution channels. While there are numerous strategies that can help an organization become successful on a global scale, the best strategy to use is highly dependent upon the individual company. Some, such as Nike, are built almost exclusively on close relationships with subcontractors while others, such as Zara clothing, excel thanks to a highly integrated, centrally located headquarters. Strategies will depend upon how the organization expands its base, whether through the acquisition of other firms, the development of subcontractors or the building of new facilities, as well as the type of products or services the organization has to offer. This paper makes a conclusion that locations will have an effect upon best strategies as well, as different laws, taxes, incentives and regulations will all determine the resources and practices allowable in a given area and the overall cost of production. In the end, the best way to determine best global strategy for an individual organization is through careful analysis of the company’s goals and ethics, products offered, supply and distribution chains, resources, level of technology, legal and regulatory considerations and production processes before determining which strategy will provide for the most efficient, economic and ethically balanced combination as a means of attracting and retaining consumers.

Cultural Behaviour in the Workplace Research Paper

Cultural Behaviour in the Workplace - Research Paper Example According to Condon & Yousef (1975), people skills and intercultural communication competence contribute to successful cross-cultural business interactions. Culture determines the nature of the business interaction of individuals. Cross-cultural business interactions happen between different countries with distinct political, economic, and cultural backgrounds. For economic development, different countries and international companies collaborate to contribute positively to the global economy. However, cultural intolerance is a major cause of conflicts and misunderstandings experienced in the world today (Ayoko 2007). It is difficult for people of different cultures to understand each other since they are cultured to do things in a specific manner. Sebenius (2002) notes that this problem faces most companies engaged in cross-border business. Therefore, there is the need for all companies to adopt an international global perspective of conducting business.   This study based on the a ssumption that culture is important in determining business interactions in the workplace. Basing on the challenges experienced by employees, this study will answer the question; how does culture influence business interactions of Americans, Chinese, and Russians. This will also develop propositions for addressing challenges that arise in a multicultural workplace. The study findings will offer guidance on how to ensure effective business communication with Russians, Chinese, and Americans. The study setting is the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry. This United Arab Emirates Company serves a major purpose of organizing economic life and ensuring the prosperity of trade in the region. This includes making proposals for economic projects, engagement in legislation dealing with industrial and economic affairs, and launching opportunities for investment (SharjsaCityGuide n.d). The nature of this company allows for interactions with companies from different parts of the world, in or der to work jointly on projects or negotiate on business deals. During such cross-cultural communication, cultural differences lead to considerable challenges. The participants in this study are employees of this company, who have experience working with foreign delegates, specifically, Russian, American, and Chinese. These will share their experiences and major challenges in their dealings with the foreign delegates. Methodology This study aims at gathering information concerning the experiences of the employees of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry in dealing with delegates of Russian, American, and Chinese origins. Women and Depression: Understanding the Gender Gap

Depression, if gets too severe becomes bad for a person. It not only affects the person himself but it also affects that person’s family also affecting his work or school as well as personal life and his sleeping and eating habits as well. Depression also affects the well being of a person in a way that it leads to chronic medical conditions like diabetics. Women usually think that they can work through a depression on their own, knowing this fact that they suffer from depression more frequently than men do. They may get the wrong idea that the low risk related with medication management of depression, they may also believe that since they are smart diligent people an analyst or psychologist will be of no aid; these wrong beliefs are, regrettably very common. Sometimes medications for depression may have irritating side effects, such as insomnia, agitation, or sleepiness, but grave effects are very odd. Women with a true depression are suffering, such inconvenient, non-life intimidating side effects, which may diminish soon, nevertheless, are likely to be much more bearable than untreated depression for a lot of women. Repeatedly studies have revealed that either counseling or medication therapy, or both mutually, are really useful in securely relieving depression in both men and women. Biological factors behind depression for women There come into view to be significant links between mood changes and reproductive health events, gender differences in toll of depression emerge when females go through puberty and stay high throughout the childbearing years and into late middle period. Hormonal factors appear to play a function in some of the mood disturbance practiced by women, twenty to forty percent of menstruating women practice premenstrual temper and behavioral changes. Approximately two to ten percent of women experience Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, as several as ten to fifteen percent of women experience a clinical depression throughout pregnancy or subsequent to the birth of a baby. There also come into view to be an increase in depression during the perimenopausal period. An additional biological issue that may add to gender differences in depression can be connected to circadian rhythm patterns, the complex structure that regulates sleep and action over each 24-hour period. Depressed women report more hypersomnia (too much sleeping) than do men. The role of premenstrual factors in depression Hormonal fluctuations throughout the menstrual cycle can cause the common symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), for instance irritability, fatigue, bloating and emotional reactivity. For most of the women, PMS is easygoing, but for a number of women, symptoms are harsh enough to upset their lives and a diagnosis of premenstrual dysphoric chaos (PMDD) is made. Though the precise relation among depression and premenstrual syndrome remains vague, some examines say that cyclical modifications in progesterone, estrogen and additional hormones can upset the role of brain chemicals for instance serotonin that manage mood. Still, since such hormonal changes take place in the majority of women, but not all women build up depression, hormonal changes can't be the merely reason of depression in women. Genetic predisposition or other issues also can manipulate the development of depression. Postpartum depression Depression subsequent to childbirth is known as postpartum depression, hormonal changes may activate symptoms of postpartum depression, while a woman is pregnant, stages of the female hormones estrogen and progesterone boosts greatly. In the initial 24 hours following childbirth, hormone levels rapidly return to standard. Researchers believe the huge change in hormone levels may direct to depression. Levels of thyroid hormones can also fall after giving birth, which causes symptoms of depression. Role of perimenopause and menopause in a woman’s depression Perimenopause is the middle period earlier than menopause, which is marked by a twelve month’s termination of a woman’s menstrual cycle, throughout perimenopause, hormones change radically and few women feel an alteration in mood, anxiety and depression. Throughout this phase of transition, women start thinking about their achievements up to this point, women frequently view this time as a turning end, not only are perimenopausa l women examining their life thus far, they are practicing hormonal changes that are influencing them physically. Negative and positive role of social and cultural factors in a woman’s depression Role strain – Women frequently undergo role strain over contradictory and irresistible responsibilities in their life, the additional roles a woman is expected to play (mother, wife, working woman), the extra vulnerable she is to role strain and following stress and depression. Research specifies that single mothers are three times more probable than married mothers to practice an episode of main depression. Costello, 1993). Unequal power and status – Women’s comparative lack of power and position in society may direct to feelings of helplessness, this sense of helplessness puts women at larger risk for depression, and these feelings may be aggravated by discrimination in the place of work leading to underemployment or being without a job. An additional causal factor is society’s importance on youth, beauty, and thinness in women, traits which to a great level are out of their control. Sexual and physical abuse – Women are a lot more likely to be sexually abused than men, and researchers have found that sexual abuse in childhood puts one at enlarged risk for depression in maturity. Higher rates of depression are also found among sufferers of rape. Poverty – Poverty is more general among women than men, single mothers have the uppermost rates of poverty transversely all demographic groups. Poverty is a harsh, chronic stressor than can direct to depression. The positive affects of depression are that when the women have to live with less, they eventually learn to live with it and when they do not have a job, they will have more free time to spend with the family and friends. Moreover, it is good as it always gives way to struggle and makes art and music better. How does one go about getting treatment? Make healthy lifestyle changes Lifestyle alterations are never easy to make, but if altered can have a big impact on depression, self-help strategies that can be very effectual comprise: ? develop helpful relationships ? regular exercise and sufficient sleep Healthy, mood-boosting diet ? Stress management and practice relaxation methods ? confront negative thought patterns Seek professional help Professional help contains some form of therapy that gives tools to handle depression from a diversity of angles, a number of therapies teach practical techniques on how to reframe negative thoughts and employ behavioral abilities in fighting depre ssion can also assist working out through the origin of depression, helping understand why he or she feels a certain way, what triggers are for depression, and what he or she can do to stay healthy. Do you think women are more likely to seek out treatment? Why or why not? Women, first and foremost wives and daughters, provide the bulk of care giving, specifically in the United States, about 12 million women practice depression each year, at about twice the pace of men. A recent study found that many women do not look for treatment for depression since they are embarrassed or in refutation about being depressed, in fact, forty one percent of women reviewed cited embarrassment or disgrace as obstruction to treatment. What do you think it means to be a woman? Being female has nothing to act with being lesser or second class; it has to do with execution in a God-ordained role, from the commencement, God tells us that women, like men, were formed in His image and likeness, but as both sexes are equivalent in significance and potential, their roles are very diverse. That’s the reason why men and women think and act in a different way and that is why they look unlike. â€Å"It is not fine that the man should be unaccompanied; I will make him a help meet for him†. Manonly was not an entire creation, he needed aid, so God gave him a helpmeet, one who would execute the contrary role – so that united together the two might turn into one complete flesh.

Air Pollution

Imagine that the air that you are breathing may be killing you †¦ well, no need to Imagine as this is the ugly truth. Air pollution is an intractable problem that we have noticed since the industrial revolution and it has increased over the years to become one of our time’s biggest issues. While some air pollution is a result of natural causes such as volcanic eruptions, most is caused by human activities. The first major cause of air pollution is car exhausts which lead to about 50 % of the total air pollution. The second major pollutant is Nitrogen oxides. And last is Sulpher dioxide. But wait!.. Those three are not just the only air pollutants, the causes can be many to name, e. g. fertilizer dust, cement dust, pesticides †¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦ etc The health effects caused by air pollutants can be drastic. Doctors and researchers have uncovered several diseases that seem to be caused by air pollution, including asthma, lung cancer and heart diseases. Along with harming human h ealth, air pollution can cause a variety of environmental effects, e. g. cid rain, ozone depletion, crop and forest damage and global climate change. There are now various air pollution control technologies and strategies available to help reduce it, People are encouraged now more than ever before to use non-polluting renewable forms of energy and lots of countries have established new legislation concern the protection of the environment. In conclusion, I feel that all the previous solutions go some way to offering a lasting solution to the problem of air pollution and hope to prove workable soon before it’s too late for us and for our planet. Uneasy Lies the Head That Wears a Crown Essay Example

Uneasy Lies the Head That Wears a Crown Essay Example Uneasy Lies the Head That Wears a Crown Essay Uneasy Lies the Head That Wears a Crown Essay Essay Topic: Easy There are some who think that crowned kings lead an uneasy life because they are surrounded by constant dangers. They speak of Ramchandra and Yudshisthira, of Napoleon and so on. But this is a wrong interpretation of the proverb. It really means that those who have power and responsibility have generally lead an uneasy life. All the wealth and comfort enjoyed by a man having power and responsibility, cannot bring peace to him. Power and responsibility are disturbers of mental peace, but they do so all the more when he who has them stands alone, - when there is none to share his troubles. The dictator - whether he sits on the throne or lords it over in his home can never know peace. This is mainly because he takes too much on himself. He monopolises all power and tries to look after everything. But a mans capacity, no matter how big he is limited. Not only so, he becomes suspicious and doubtful like Stalin in his last days or Saddam of Iraq, of everyone; for they believed that they alone were capable and efficient; all others are bunglers or shirkers. This megalomania is the penalty of dictatorship. If he is conscientious, his troubles increase. He forgets that division of work is the law of nature. Then are we to shun responsibility? Should we give up all powers and retire within our own little cell, going round the same circle like the oilmans bullock? We must try to take things easily, even our responsibilities. That it can be done is the experience of many. The dictatorial attitude is always fatal to mental peace. Secondly, it is good to work under the taskmaster to whom one feels accountable. Even when one has no human taskmaster, one falls back upon the idea of God.But far better it is to work under the eye of ones own conscience. Conscience tells us what to do and what not to do; and he who follows the dictates of conscience has no burden on his mind. Thirdly, some amount of humility helps to relieve the mental uneasiness of one who wears the crown, who exercises power and holds respon sibility. A man, who thinks less of what others owe to him than of what he owes to others, is spared much uneasiness racking the mind. The selfish man should perhaps be the least happy. But that is not true because everyone avoids him; he has none to come forward to share his troubles. If power involves isolation, uneasiness becomes unavoidable. Such a man will be left high and dry. So Shakespeares words, in Henry IV Uneasy lies the head that wears crown, are true in more than the literal sense. It is certainly not necessary to avoid power, responsibility, and even wealth. But we should accept them as a kind of sacred trust and fulfill the obligations they lay on us in a spirit of humility and selflessness.

Profile of Tantalus, Mortal Son of Zeus

Profile of Tantalus, Mortal Son of Zeus Favored by the gods, Tantalus was allowed to dine with them. Taking advantage of this position, he either made a meal for the gods of his son Pelops or he told other mortals the secrets of the gods which he had learned at their table. When Tantalus served Pelops to the gods, all except Demeter recognized the food for what it was and refused to eat, but Demeter, grieving for her lost daughter, was distracted and ate the shoulder. When the gods restored Pelops, he was given an ivory replacement. Consequences Tantalus is known primarily for the punishment he endured. Tantalus is shown in Tartarus in the Underworld eternally trying to do the impossible. On earth, he was punished either by having a stone hang forever over his head or by being driven from his kingdom. Punishment The punishment of Tantalus in Tartarus is to stand knee deep in water but be unable to slake his thirst because whenever he bends down, the water vanishes. Over his head hangs fruit, but whenever he reaches for it, it goes just beyond his reach. From this punishment, Tantalus is familiar to us in the word tantalize. The Family of Origin Zeus was the father of Tantalus and his mother was Pluto, daughter of Himas. Marriage and Children Tantalus was married to a daughter of Atlas, Dione. Their children were Niobe, Broteas, and Pelops. Position Tantalus was king of Sipylos in Asia Minor. Others say he was king of Paphlagonia also in Asia Minor. Sources Ancient sources for Tantalus include Apollodorus, Diodorus Siculus, Euripides, Homer, Hyginus, Antoninus Liberalis, Nonnius, Ovid, Pausanias, Plato, and Plutarch. Tantalus and the House of Atreus After Tantalus betrayed the trust of the gods his family started to suffer. His daughter Niobe was turned to stone. His grandson was the first husband of Clytemnestra and was killed by Agamemnon. Another grandson, through ivory-shouldered Pelops, was Atreus, father of Agamemnon and Menelaus. Atreus and Thyestes were brothers and rivals who wound up destroying each other. They had fallen under a curse uttered by Hermes son Myrtilus against Pelops and all his family. Atreus further defied the gods by promising Artemis a golden lamb and then failing to deliver it. After a series of tricks and treacheries between the brothers, Atreus served up a dish to his brother of three of Thyestes children.

Civil education research Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Civil education research - Essay Example However, in case of young people from ethnic and racial minorities and from economically weaker communities and families, levels of civic knowledge and political socialization are low. UK declared citizenship education a statutory requirement in schools in 2002. This provision happens to be flexible in its approach as each individual school can decide as to the way and manner in which this civic education is provided. The surprising thing is that the outcomes of civic education have been found to be more positive in such methods that encourage active engagement and identification with political issues (Hahn, 2010, p. 10). Young people actively involved in community activities and issues tend to be politically more vocal and communicative. Again, civic knowledge and engagement in political discourse and activism is very low in young people from economically weaker families. Traditionally speaking there were no formal programs for citizenship education in Australia (Hahn, 2010, p. 13). It has been found that the Australian youth does evince a low interest and faith in political parties and political issues (Hahn, 2010). Besides, their attitude towards political socialization and discourse is also that of unconcern. Yet, surprising thing is that young people do show more insight and interest in such issues, in which they registered a direct social participation and
